Snappling works on your own computer. Your screenshots and recordings stay there unless you choose to send them somewhere.
The short version
- No account is needed to use Snappling.
- No analytics, no tracking, no ads, and no crash reports are sent anywhere.
- Screenshots, recordings, history and settings stay on your computer.
- The app only goes online to check for updates, to activate a paid license, and when you choose to share or upload something.
What stays on your computer
Everything you capture, plus your history and settings, is stored locally:
- Captures and recordings are saved to Pictures\Snappling unless you choose another folder.
- History and settings live in %APPDATA%\Snappling.
- Text recognition (Capture text) uses the text recognition built into Windows. The image is processed on your computer.
When the app uses the internet
| What | When | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| Update check | Now and then, and when you click Check for updates | A request for a small file on snappling.com. It includes the app version number. As with any web request, our host sees your IP address. |
| License activation (Pro, Pro Max) | When you enter a key, then about once a week | Your license key and your computer's name, sent to our payment provider, Lemon Squeezy, to confirm the key. Free users send nothing. |
| Share and upload | Only when you pick a target | Slack, Teams, Discord, Figma, Jira, Notion, Trello and email: the image is copied to your clipboard and the app opens, so you paste it yourself. GitHub, Jira attachments and custom uploads: the image is sent to the service or server you set up, using your own token. |
| Cloud folders | When you save to a quick folder | Snappling saves the file into the folder on your computer. Your own OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud Drive or Box app syncs it. |
| Help and feedback | When you use Help › Report a bug or Contact us | Nothing is sent automatically. The app opens an email draft to support@snappling.com for you to review and send. |
That is the complete list. Snappling does not upload your captures in the background.
Keys and tokens
If you connect GitHub or Jira, the access token you enter is encrypted with Windows' built-in protection for your Windows user account before it is written to the settings file on your computer. It is only ever sent to the service it belongs to.
This website
- No cookies, no analytics and no tracking scripts.
- Pages and downloads are served by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and the pages requested) to run and protect the service.
- Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when a page loads.
Purchases
Paid licenses are sold through Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the seller and handles your payment details, receipts and taxes under its own privacy policy. We never see your card number. We receive the details we need to issue and support your license, such as your email address and order.
Your choices
- To remove everything Snappling stored, uninstall it, then delete %APPDATA%\Snappling and your captures folder.
- To free a license for another computer, use Settings › Plan › Deactivate.
- To ask about, correct or delete data we hold about you (such as a purchase record), email support@snappling.com.
Snappling is not aimed at children. We may update this page as the app changes, and the date above shows when it last changed.
